Common questions about SEAI grants
Your home must have been built and occupied before 2011. It must be your principal private residence. Works must be carried out by an SEAI-registered contractor — there is no income test.
Yes. You can combine cavity wall and external wall insulation in the same project and claim both grants. Wall insulation grants can also be stacked with attic insulation, heat pump and solar panel grants. Heat pump installation must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrician — find one at electriciansinireland.ie.
The grant is deducted directly from your invoice by the contractor. You pay only the remaining balance. You never receive or wait for a government payment — your contractor claims it after the works are signed off.
The grant application is handled by your contractor. Once the work is completed and signed off by the SEAI, payment to the contractor typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. The physical works themselves can take one day to three weeks depending on the type of insulation.
